Great Read on How to Lead and Love the Woman in your Life

This book absolutely resonates with me.

The first book I read from Bruce Bryans was What Women Want in a Man which included ten characteristics of a nice guy. I found myself in about six of them. I followed that first book with Hold onto Your Nuts (Wayne Levine) and No More Mr. Nice Guy (Robert Glover). Those three books alone were instrumental in changing how I carried myself — with wonderful results.

This book builds on what I have already learned and have experienced to be true. Some highlights for me:
Identifies the three main test: Congruence, Compliance, and Commitment. Reinforces the need for us men to be our own men by living by your own standards and principles. He also writes about leading through vulnerability but keeping in mind that men shouldn't lean on women before we have successfully and consistently demonstrated that we are worthy of her support.

I cannot recommend this book enough.

my initial reaction to this book was pretty negative-not because of the author's explanations as to why women test. (I thought those were pretty accurate) but because of the advice about how to respond to these tests. I guess I'm changing my review because I don't know how these tests should be handled and maybe he does. My ex used to always give in to me, would do anything to please me, and I thought I loved that about him but...he's an ex. Maybe these methods are better? Anyway the "why" behind female testing is explained very thoroughly and accurately. I also appreciate the sentiment that it's not our fault (entirely). it's really hard to know when you're testing a guy. It's true for me that I don't usually know I'm doing it til the conversations over.

One of the best of 2016!

I grabbed this novel as soon as it arrived, and plunged in - so interesting were the comments of early readers. Definitely a departure from the repetitious plots of so many of today's bestsellers, All is Not Forgotten, is a deep, gripping page-turner that will leave you with much to think about. For starters, you will not learn the identity of the narrator until Chapter Seven. And, underlying the plot is a new treatment which is being used with PTSD sufferers and trauma victims, which is intended to erase all memory of the violent event. Add to this a psychiatrist, who treats a number of trauma victims, including Jenny, a local girl who has been raped - and who is a master puppeteer in manipulating desired responses to his therapy. Yikes!

Walker is a skilled writer, who keeps the story moving through the psychiatrist's therapy sessions with Jenny, her mother, Charlotte and father, Tom. Alan Forrester, the psychiatrist, digs deeply into the backgrounds of all involved, and dredges up delicious fodder for all their reactions to the events of their lives. You will swear that, besides being an attorney, Walker has been a psychiatrist, so keen are her insights into the dynamics of a family confronted with a horrific situation. Add to all of this, life in a small town, where everybody knows everybody, and you have the perfect setting for cracks to develop in what seemed an idyllic foundation. There are many mysteries to solve besides who raped Jenny.

I was fortunate to be able to set life aside long enough to read this tantalizing novel in two days. A novel like this one comes along too seldom - one that keeps you on edge throughout, and leaves you thinking about the implications of the "treatment" at the basis of therapy for trauma victims. Is it really a benefit to victims to blank out all memory of their trauma? What are we really accomplishing when we use drugs to alter memory? We'll be hearing more about this technique in the years to come. In the meantime, here's an intriguing novel for supreme reading pleasure and something new to think about! Great writing...creative, innovative premise!

A story of a rape and its investigation... by an outsider with an agenda #firstpersonminor

This is very much the story of Jenny. Of her rape; her parents' decision to try to assist her to forget the attack and move on; and - on failing to do so - the resulting attempts to recover her memories of the night in question.

However... we're not in Jenny's head. At all. Ever. She's quoted - in police reports, second hand accounts and directly in interviews - but the entire story is delivered in first person (occasionally second) by Jenny's psychiatrist (Dr Forrester) who is initially on the periphery. It took some getting used to and for some time I wasn't sure if the approach was clever or confusing.

Jenny's decision to attempt to reacquire her memories coincide with a break in her rape case. New information comes to light and Jenny, her family and the police are keen for Forrester to play a role in helping to put her perpetrator behind bars.

However.... Forrester is a complex host for we readers. Seemingly objective in relaying much of the case, he ends up with a few secrets of his own.

And for me anyway - Forrester became less likeable. The straight talking narrator was fine, but by the time he meets Jenny and her parents and sees himself as their saviour we indeed realise he seems to have a bit of a god complex and is wonderfully (and not in a good way) arrogant.

My thoughts on this book varied throughout. In parts I found the good psychiatrist so icky that I just wanted to stop reading. At other times it seemed the outcome was going to be obvious, so I wanted to stop reading. As it happened, I wouldn't have picked the twists - as we're not entirely privy to everything, though given clues - but ultimately glad I kept going.

Intelligent Suspense

All Is Not Forgotten is both a suspenseful page-turner and a thoughtful novel on the relationship between emotion and memory. Jenny is in 10th grade when she is brutally raped, and her parents decide to have the doctors administer a (fictional - for now) drug that will erase her memory of the event, but the cure doesn't fix the problem and arguably makes it worse. The story is the quest for her to reverse the effects of the drug - to regain her memory. And it's told from the point of view of the psychiatrist, who soon reveals himself to be a less than reliable narrator.

What makes this book better than the garden variety suspense novel is that there is real science going on in this arena. Researchers and doctors are experimenting with ways in which PTSD sufferers can get relief or prevent their suffering in the first place with drugs that modify or block memory, which makes this novel thought provoking as well as enjoyable.

Watch for the movie at some point in the future - produced by Reese Witherspoon!

Willow & Teddy are a "hot" match

Willow is the second book in the Flower Child series. This book can be read as a stand alone. There is a follow up or insight on Clover and her men, Eustace and Jim.

Willow Spencer decides to go to West Virginia to visit her friend, Clover, after receives a letter from her. Clover has been living in the backwoods and asked Willow to come there. Willow will be working as a nanny for a widow with three children. She is a hippy / wild child with a free love attitude. Willow is instantly attracted to Teddy.

Teddy is still reeling from the death of his wife and not sure how to interact with Willow or his children. Teddy doesn't really talk and is very standoffish to Willow. She tries to get his attention without much success, until she looks to another for some sexual attention. Teddy doesn't like that very much, and things change between them after that.

Willow is a woman who just wants to be loved for who she is. Teddy is a man who is not sure how to move on with his life. These two help each other grow and change in positive ways. They both discover the other person's sensitive side and vulnerability. Teddy and Willow each had fears and doubts, but they accepted the other for who they were (flaws and all).

This story still has the extremely, steamy sexual scenes and expletive language like the previous book, but it is so much more. This is a more complete story, in my opinion. This book has romance with a happily ever after. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I loved Willow and Teddy together. I loved that you got to know and understand the characters more. I loved "The Band-Aids" and "A Well-Read Book" concept or analysis. I have many favorite quotes, too many to list. One of my favorite quotes is:
"You kiss me like you're on fire." "Because you make me burn."

Steamy, steamy, steamy!!!

This is the sequel in the Backroads Trilogy and can be read as a stand-alone. Having read the first novel in this series by Moxie Darling, I was expecting this one to be full of out of the box steamy scenes and a light romance. I was dead wrong. Though this sequel had a handful of kinky scenes there was a back story behind them that tugged on my heart strings.
We meet Willow who has been hired by single father Teddy to care for his children. She has a connection to Clover from the first book and I really liked how their friendship was portrayed in this novel. Like Clover, Willow is very free with sex and easy-going though not as into a three way relationship was her friend Clover is.
Teddy’s welcome to Willow is less than kind, and we quickly find him to be brooding and silent; not an easy man to get along to. The attraction is almost instant and so well written you immediately get the feeling it could be more than just sex with the two characters.
There are moments that had me smiling (any moment with the well written exceptional children) and there are moments that had me want to tear my hair out (any moment where Teddy denies his feelings).
Again Moxie Darling managed to write a quick, steamy read with an in-depth dramatic love story that had you begging for more by the last page. I seriously wish it was longer and I CANNOT wait for the third in this series!

dirty novella's, so obviously going into this i was ...

I received this Novella from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Ok, so it's no secret i am a huge fan of Moxie Darling and her deliciously detailed, dirty novella's, so obviously going into this i was expecting smut, a story in the background, but mostly smut (definitely not something that bothers me because i didn't start reading these expecting to get lengthy, angsty drawn out romance). Also there isn't as much sex in Willow in comparison to Clover, but the sex in this was possibly even HOTTER!!

So now onto the story: Willow the female heroine (Clover's friend, which FYI if you haven't read, go read this instant) and a rugged single dad named Teddy. Willow is going to the family to fill a roll similar as a nanny/teacher. Teddy wants nothing to do with Willow, but Willow is definitely open to the idea ;)
They argue back and forth, there is some inappropriate but deliciously sexual touches, and some jealously.
Similar to Clover there is a taboo of sorts, but it didn't bother me too much, but then again, that circumstance isn't a sensitive topic for me.

It is a Novella, so it starts and finishes quick, but definitely worth it if you want a sexual tension build up, with a smutty ending. Willow was a great smut novella with a good story and i will continue to read Moxie darling, the woman knows how to write some sex!

Henrik Meinander paints a brisk and bold picture of the history of Finland from integrated part of the Swedish kingdom to autonomous Grand Duchy within the Russian empire, gradually transformed and maturing into a conscious nation, independent state and skilful adapter of modern technology. The main geographical context for his study is the Baltic region, and the author links his analysis to structural developments and turning points in European history. The book blends politics, economy and culture to show how human and natural resources in Finland have been utilized and the impact its cultural heritage and technological innovation have had on its development. In a departure from most conventional approaches, Meinander gives greater emphasis to recent and contemporary events. In other words, he puts Finland into a range of historical contexts in its Baltic and European settings to highlight how both together have formed Finland into what it is at the beginning of the twenty-first century.

About the Author

Henrik Meinander is Professor of History at the University of Helsinki and the author of many acclaimed books on Finnish and Nordic history. He was formerly curator of the Mannerheim Museum in Helsinki and head of the Finnish Institute in Stockholm.
