The "author" of this irreverent, good-natured romp is identified as "God, The Author of All Creation, with Jeremy Pascall, holy ghost." Covering mainly the high points of the Old Testament, the Author tells us that Adam and Eve were created primarily to take care of Eden, "a little piece of Heaven on Earth" and "the first ever Garden Center." The begetting part got a bit out of hand occasionally, He admits, larking His way through chapters on Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah. In fact, He thinks the procreative act "too complicated . . . uncomfortable . . . and extremely undignified. . . . Personally, I prefer a nice cup of tea." And He confesses that He turns malcontents into cacti, which is how He transformed his holy ghost writer (see Footnote 61). British novelist Pascall obviously did not intend this sunny little book for fundamentalists or those of any faith who take their religion seriously. Illustrated with 40 rather uninspiring cartoons, the book also contains a Bibleography (sic) that lists the soon-to-be-discovered Red Sea Scrolls and The Noah Letters, "written by Noah and his wife Norah to The Author"; an Addenda (sic): Anchovy, the use of as a cure for bunions. . . . ; an Eratta (sic): "There are no eratta as The Author does not make mistakes"; and an Erratum: "Eratta should be spelt errata. The Publisher apologizes for this error."

Creationism for Dummies

I ran a title search for this series (of two) for a friend....not only is it out of print, it's never been reviewed! Disgraceful! Anyone who possesses both an interest in the Divine (i.e Everything from the Exorcist to Dogma) and a decent sense of humour will love these books. The only other author i know of with this level of quick wit is Douglas Adams-high praise indeed! I don't want to choke up the space with a synopsis: the outline for each book is simple. Each involves an outline of the creation of the universe-one from God and the other from Satan. Any self-styled "serious devil-worshippers" may stop right now and Google Anton LeVay instead. These books are great for anyone who can read both The Bible and Monty Python and not have issues with either. As a rough guide (i know these are film references but bear with me), If you like the following, then you'll like "God/Satan"
The Exorcist/Dogma/The Prophecy(just the first one)/Constantine etc. Find a copy...and then lobby to have it re-issued. Enjoy. P.s anyone who expresses the opinion that i will burn in hell for reviewing these books can go jump in the lake; i'll bet my faith in God is stronger than yours

Still chuckling over 10 years later...

I wish I could remember to whom I lent my copy all those years ago. The laughs start with the practicalities of Genesis (six days of hard works and brilliant improvisation and just plain running out of supplies last minute) thru to present day organized religion being just a little too arrogant and wide of the intended mark.
This book was never really irreverent - partly because of it's dry, Python-esque, humor and basis for the woes of the world being the fault of humans misinterpreting or perverting God's initial ideas. Miracles are easy when you're God but people are little less predictable.
Maybe it helps to be raised with a strong religious affect on your life to get the most from it. This is a very funny, memorable, read

A cross between Douglas Adams, Parke Godwin and James Morrow

I like this book. Plain and simple religious satire, without the acidity of Kevin Smith's Dogma or James Morrow's Towing Jehovah/Blameless in Abaddon.
My only regret is that it's sort of a "niche humor" story, with the ability to be (nearly) understood by preteens, but with a rather adult bent (heavy use of "begatting").
I believe this would make a good short film (30 minutes to an hour at most-- there isn't enough story for a longer version), in animated form, with either Tom Bosley or Ed Asner as God.
